Additional San Francisco Sessions Information
|
San Francisco Sessions is arguably Mark Farina's seminal contribution to the house music community. The disc opens with soothing beach sounds and heavily effected vocals that set the tone for a warm blend of tracks that are both inspired and inspirational. The mix begins to hit stride around track four ( "Things We Used To Do") with its chopped up vocals, stabbing horns, and a breakdown that would destroy any dance floor. As the mix continues Farina layers his signature Mood II Swing a capellas over a number of tracks providing an excellent sense of tension and release. The remainder of the mix moves deftly between instrumental tracks ("Spellbound"), deep and minimal tracks ("Somethin' Else"), and outright funky tracks ("Seriousfunkill"). Mark has certainly thrown down the gauntlet for future contributors to the San Francisco Sessions series, as this disc has both captured, and helped shape, the sound of West Coast house. --Anish Acharya

What Customers Say About San Francisco Sessions:

i will just put the cd on and let it spin at the highest point of the dance evening. i bought this cd solely after reading reviews-had never heard it before. my fave cuts are #s 4 and 13. i love it. i was looking for some trip-hop music for my upcoming dance party, and this was it. i plan to use the music in a dancercise session with preteens i work with at school. by the way, i took a chance on mark farina's "mushroom jazz #4 and #6" and they have completely taken over my mind too.
Funky tunes and nicely mixed but feels a bit unbalanced. Doesn't reach the level of 'Mark Farina - Live in Tokyo', so if you dont have that one then get it now.
A great selection of tasteful loungey house tracks that are mixed exceptional well together by Mark Farina. San Fransico Sessions is just one of those grate lazy albums which can suit many different moods and be enjoyed at any given time. A nice addition for any house or lounge music fan. Despite the release date of 1999, all the tracks and the set itself have aged very well.4/5 stars.
My expectations were for a "Mushroom Jazz" experience. What I got instead, was repetitive-cheap feeling music.Don't get this album unless you're a collector
this is a great cd, i can listen to it over and over. by far marks best mix
